SAN FRANCISCO -- A water main that burst Saturday morning in San Francisco's Union Square has been repaired, according to a San Francisco Public Utilities Commission spokeswoman.

A contractor working near Stockton and Geary streets, near Neiman Marcus, hit an 8-inch water main pipe causing it to burst at about 9:30 a.m., SFPUC spokeswoman Lily Madjus said.

Water from the main break flooded the basements of nearby buildings housing several high-end retail stores, San Francisco fire officials said.

At about noon all repairs were completed.
