SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- San Jose police are searching for whoever killed a man late Monday night. His body was found in a Lowe's parking lot on Ridder Park Drive and Schallenberger Road.

The manager of Lowe's says the victim was not a customer or employee.

The crime scene was not hidden from view. The homicide investigation could be seen from passing vehicles on nearby I-880.

Shoppers were shocked to learn a man was found dead there. "Never seen any problems at all, no confrontations," Charlie Price said.

Police say a passerby alerted them to the man, who had visible injuries and was not breathing when officers arrived.

Homicide detectives spent about 10 hours on the scene, paying particular attention to a Pontiac Aztec before it was towed away as evidence.

Workers say there are homeless encampments in the area.

San Jose police have investigated eight homicides involving homeless people this year. One case has been solved.

Police have not released the identity of this victim or a possible suspect, leaving many workers in the area concerned about their safety.

This is the 38th homicide of the year in San Jose, eight more than all of last year.
