Sunnyvale pizza delivery drivers robbed at gunpoint
A couple of drivers have been robbed at gunpoint at a Sunnyvale Domino's franchise and police hope to catch whoever is responsible.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (KGO) -- These are dangerous days to deliver pizza in Sunnyvale. A couple of drivers have been robbed at gunpoint and police and the local Domino's franchise want to find whoever is responsible and keep it from happening again.

There are two Domino's locations in Sunnyvale and the manager at the one on Caliente Drive is scared the robbers could show up at the store. That's why on a shift that normally has one or two people on it, now has triple that.

Domino's Store Manager Nicole Delaney told ABC7 News, "I think it's scary and crazy and I don't think it should be going on. It's ridiculous."

She spoke to us about what happened Monday night to two Domino's delivery drivers in Sunnyvale. After delivering pizzas on East Remington, two people pushed a driver into his own car, got in the vehicle, put a gun behind the delivery man's head and asked him to hand over his money.

The kidnappers eventually left the driver with his car, but an hour later, they struck again. During the second robbery, they targeted driver Gatta Ba after his delivery on Bayview Avenue, but he wasn't about to give in.

Ba said the robbers told him, "I have a gun. Get in your car." Ba said he grabbed the robber's hand, fought and pushed the robber and ran away. He ran right back to his customer's house and banged on the door.

Domino's customer Steven Karas said, "He said, they had a gun. So we were like, 'Get inside.' And then we got him inside, closed the door, called 911."

Sunnyvale police think the same robbers are responsible for both crimes.

Sunnyvale Police Capt. Jeff Hunter said, "Drivers do sometimes carry some cash and it's an easy way for someone to take advantage of them and get their money."

The robbers likely don't realize drivers don't carry much cash.

By the way, both delivery men refused to take a day off from work the following day.
