Devious doctors and naughty nurses, indeed! Medical staff and senior executives from a Chinese hospital have been punished for taking pictures next to patients who appear to be unconscious, state media reports.

A series of photos circulated on the microblogging site Sina Weibo shows Chinese doctors and nurses in scrubs, posing with patients on the operating table. One of the pictures even shows a doctor leaning over the patient mid-surgery.

Several Chinese media sites then Tweeted out the photos.

The Xi'an Bureau of Public Health removed three top executives in response to photos, which were reportedly taken in August at a hospital in the province of Shaanxi. The other health workers were reprimanded and docked three months' pay.

The hospital issued a public apology for the pictures.

"Our staff members have neglected the possible negative consequences of their actions, we will undergo an in depth review of the incident," the statement reads.
