The Speediest Kickstarter Campaigns Ever
-- After successfully reaching a Kickstarter goal of raising $1 million in less than a day last week, actor and television host LeVar Burton and "Reading Rainbow" is back for more. The Kickstarter campaign was re-launched with a goal of $5 million.
By last Friday, the campaign had raised twice its minimum fundraising goal of $1 million to bring the educational children's program to the Web and 1,500 classrooms for free. Burton then wrote on his Kickstarter page a "stretch" goal of $5 million to provide free access to 7,500 classrooms and access on mobile devices. The new deadline is July 2.
As of today, the campaign has raised more than $3.5 million from 77,451 backers, making it one of the most successful campaigns on the crowd-funding site.

But believe it or not, the "Reading Rainbow" campaign is not the fastest Kickstarter campaign to reach $1 million. These are:
This campaign, to expand a line of "high-quality plastic gaming miniatures," had a Kickstarter fundraising goal of $30,000. It raised more than $3.1 million from 14,964 backers in 2.7 hours. It was funded on Oct. 26, 2013.
Fans of the TV show "Veronica Mars," starring Kristen Bell, weren't very happy when it ended in 2007. So the show's creator and executive producer, Rob Thomas, turned to Kickstarter with a goal of raising $2 million. The campaign raised more than $5.7 million from 91,585 backers. It was funded on April 12, 2013, and the movie was released in March 2014.
Created by artist Stefan Pokorny, a self-described Dungeons and Dragons enthusiast, Drawven Forge is dungeon terrain for gamers. In just over 5 hours, this campaign raised more than $2.1 million, well past the goal of $100,000, from 3,950 backers. The project was funded on April 8, 2014.
This campaign for a role-playing game had a goal of $900,000 but raised more than $4.1 million from 74,405 backers. The project was funded on April 5, 2013.
5. OUYA: A New Kind of Video Game Console
The campaign for this Android-based video game console raised nearly $8.6 million from 63,416 backers, with only a $950,000 goal. The project was funded on Aug. 9, 2012.
6. Bring Reading Rainbow
Actor LeVar Burton, from the film "Roots" and the television show "Star Trek: The Next Generation," has returned to the spotlight with his Kickstarter campaign. The campaign quickly reached $1 million in only 10.83 hours. Based on the success, Burton extended the campaign until July 2, allowing people to pledge as little as $5. Backers who invest $10,000 can get an "ultimate Star Trek 'visor' package" in which you can join Burton and Star Trek actor Brent Spiner (who played "Data") for a private dinner in Los Angeles. Oh, and you can wear the visor that Burton wore in the show.
