FOSTER CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- A toddler has been hospitalized after falling from a third story window in Foster City.

The Foster City fire department says the child was taken by helicopter to Stanford Medical Center in serious condition.

This all happened at about 8:20 a.m. at the Water's Edge Apartments located at 1200 East Hillsdale Boulevard. Officials say the one and a half year old child was in a common hall area on the third floor, attempted to look out a window and put his hands on a screen, when it gave way and he fell out. Firefighters arrived on the scene and started treating the child.

When the helicopter arrived, the Life Flight nurses took over and he was flown to Stanford Medical Center. Firefighters were not specific about the injuries to the boy, but said they were consistent with a 20 to 25 foot fall.

The Foster City police department is now in charge of the investigation.
