Trinity County wildfire prompts evacuations

WEAVERVILLE, Calif. (KGO) -- A major wildfire in Trinity County is now 25 percent contained after crews worked through the night building containment lines. The fire started Sunday afternoon near Highway 299.

The fire forced the evacuation of about 200 homes, near the town of Weaverville.

The fire has burned about 650 acres of steep terrain and had damaged one structure, possibly a barn or large outbuilding. The fire started yesterday afternoon near highway 299.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
