SAN LEANDRO, Calif. -- An accident involving two big-rigs on the Interstate Highway 880 in San Leandro caused a chemical spill and an injury this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at 4:30 a.m. on the northbound Highway 880 and Washington Avenue onramp, the CHP said.

One big-rig driver was reported trapped at 4:31 a.m. and suffered a leg injury, causing firefighters to close one lane, according to the CHP.

The county health department was then notified of a chemical spill, prompting all lanes to be stopped at 5:41 a.m., the CHP said.

Lanes were quickly reopened and Caltrans arrived at 5:55 a.m. to assist with the incident, according to the CHP.

One shoulder remains blocked as the chemicals are being cleared from the area.
