At least two police officers were shot at a private residence in Fort Worth on Friday evening, officials say.

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Two police officers were shot in Fort Worth while responding to a suicide call, police department officials say.

The shooting happened at a home on Wharton Drive just after 8:30pm. Officers found an elderly male deceased with a gunshot wound to the head. Another person in the home directed officers to a possible witness to the shooting, who was in a shed behind the house.

When the two responding officers attempted to confront the witness in the shed, the witness allegedly opened fire.

Police officials provide an update following the shooting of two police officers in Fort Worth.

Officials say the shooter is still in the shed, although his/her condition is unknown. A SWAT team on the scene has deployed gas canisters in an attempt to extricate the suspect from the shed.

One officer was hit multiple times in the torso upper extremities, and is now in critical condition at a local hospital.

The second officer's bulletproof vest deflected shots to his chest.

No other details have been released.
