Vacaville police arrest man after high-speed chase

VACAVILLE, Calif. -- A 40-year-old Vacaville man is in Solano County jail Sunday after allegedly leading police on a drunken high-speed chase late Saturday night.

According to police, officers working in the downtown area heard the sounds of squealing tires around 11:40 p.m.

A search for the sounds resulted in officers finding a speeding vehicle, which they attempted to stop.

Police report that the driver headed at more than 80 mph onto Gibson Canyon Road and ran through a stop sign at Gibson Canyon and Fruitvale roads before abandoning the vehicle.

Police watched the suspect run from the abandoned vehicle into a home on Rustic Lane in an unincorporated area of the county.

Officers entered the home and arrested the suspect, who has been identified as Don Sheets.

Police report that sheets was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, and was found to be in possession of more than a pound of marijuana.

He was arrested for these alleged crimes, in addition to probation violation and driving in a reckless manner.
