Video shows Little Caesar's pizza robbery, shooting
El Cerrito police are asking for the public's help in tracking down 3 masked men who robbed a pizza shop and shot one of the employees.

EL CERRITO, Calif. (KGO) -- Masked robbers burst into a Little Caesars pizza restaurant on Monday night in El Cerrito and shot a woman as she handed over the money. The terrifying incident that scared everyone involved was all caught on camera.

ABC7 News reporter Laura Anthony broke the story on Twitter Tuesday afternoon of the surveillance video. You can see two customers huddled together during that robbery.

It happened on San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito, just a few blocks south of the El Cerrito del Norte BART Station.

The pizza shop opened for business one day after the robbery. The clerk who was shot has been released from the hospital.

Police believe there were three robbers and they are still on the loose. The crime was caught on several surveillance cameras, which may help track them down.

The crime was over in two minutes. The video shows one man walking into Little Caesar's pizza just after 8 p.m. His face is covered and he's wearing surgical gloves, clearly holding a gun.

A second man follows and jumps over the counter. A third, according to police, is waiting outside apparently as a lookout.

El Cerrito Police Officer Robert De La Campa shows ABC7 News the video and narrates it. He points out, "The suspect with the pistol takes a step back... and right about there, is where we think the shot was fired."

That shot hits the clerk in the arm. Despite her injury, the suspects force her to open the safe. At the same time, the man with the gun appears to be talking on his cellphone.

Finally, once the safe is cleared out, the second suspect jumps back over the counter leaving a bloody footprint.

"It's certainly brazen. The video speaks for itself on many levels. What motivates them is not known to us, but it was certainly a violent crime. And certainly scared everyone involved," El Cerrito Police Officer Robert De La Campa.

Police say the gun used is very unusual. Investigators say it appears to be a break front or break-action single load pistol or a rifle or shotgun that's been shortened.

"We've looked at that pistol and it is a very distinctive pistol. You see in the video that it's not a revolver. It doesn't have a rotating cylinder and it doesn't appear to be a semi-automatic pistol either. Because there's no slide, there's no moving parts," Hubbs said.

The clerk who was shot was treated and released from a local hospital. Anyone with information is asked to call El Cerrito police.
