Vigil held for Stockton woman killed during bank robbery

STOCKTON, Calif. (KGO) -- On Saturday, loved ones honored a woman who lost her life in a bank heist and gun battle in Stockton. Police say Misty Holt-Singh, a mother of two, was used as a human shield after being taken hostage Wednesday.

Her family remembered her as the loving center of their lives during a small vigil on Saturday. About two dozen people marched from Holt-Singh's church to the bank where she was taken hostage.

The march was led by the pastor of the Holy Cross Methodist Church around 2 p.m. Many of the people are still in a state of shock over the violent bank robbery, car chase and shootout that took Holt-Singh's life along with two of her captors, who have been identified as Gilbert Renteria, 30, Alex Martinez, 27, and Jaime Ramos, 19. Ramos survived and is facing murder, kidnapping and robbery charges.

Two employees of the bank were also taken hostage and survived after they were thrown out or jumped out during the chase.

Police are still trying to find out who fired the bullet that killed Holt-Singh.

"I think the best thing said about her is that she was such a positive person, that she was always loving and giving. So, what I think is important is that our response also be loving and giving. That we not let the anger that we're feeling and the frustration boil up and destroy this city even more," Rev. Kimberly Montenegro said.

A much larger vigil, with possibly family members and friends will be held at the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel in Stockton at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Police are still searching for a driver in connection to the shooting after they recovered a dark-colored Buick sedan seen on video dropping off the suspects. The car had no license plates and was found abandoned in a neighborhood about a 10-minute drive from the bank.

Stockton police released surveillance video on their Facebook page of the vehicle outside the bank.

San Joaquin County Chief Deputy District Attorney Ronald Freitas said that the surviving suspect, Ramos, could face up to 33 charges, including three murder charges that make him eligible for a death sentence. He is being held without bail, and it's not clear if he has an attorney yet.

Investigators did follow-up interviews with the two survivors Friday, whose office plans to file charges Monday, the day of Ramos' arraignment.
