CHARLOTTE, NC -- A woman in North Carolina is recovering at a burn center after a fryer fell over at a Chipotle restaurant and splattered hot oil on her body.

Eyewitnesses tell ABC affiliate WSOC-TV the woman had just finished buying her food and was standing near a drink counter when employees spilled the oil on the floor.

"I heard her scream from when she fell into it. She got up and her clothes were torn in the back," said Jason Broady, who was eating inside the restaurant at the time.

Someone called 911 and told dispatchers that a fryer fell and it got on a customer. An ambulance arrived a short time later and rushed the woman to a burn center at Wake Forest Baptist. She was still in the hospital Wednesday morning in good condition.

WSOC-TV said it reached out to the manager of the Chipotle restaurant, but she refused to talk.

A spokesperson at Chipotle's corporate headquarters later issued a statement that read, "We are extremely sorry for this unfortunate incident. We are very concerned that we could have allowed this to happen in one of our restaurants, and are investigating the cause so that we can understand exactly how it happened, and ensure that it never happens again."
