Oakland animal shelter makes room for cats from North Bay fire zone

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals helped transport 11 cats from Oakland to Seattle today to clear room for cats from the Wine Country. The Wine Country shelters are full because of displaced cats from the fire and need some relief.

They won't move fire victims to the shelter; they want to keep them close to home so families can find them and be near them. Instead they will move other animals to make room for the four legged fire victims.

The ASPCA pays for the transport. The worker who packs them up and takes them to the airport says he will handle them with a gentle hand since cats don't like change and get nervous. But he is happy to know he is helping everyone find a forever home.

He also said his big message is spay or neuter your pets!
