A mother dog and her nine puppies were fleeing from a fire in Valparaiso, Chile. In order to protect her pups, the mother dog dug a hole and hid her puppies in there, according to Telemundo 47.

Luckily, the puppies were retrieved from the hole with the help of rescuers.

The mother also survived the incident, too.

Now, Valparaiso residents are coming forward to adopt the new pups and their mother, who has been affectionately nicknamed "Negita."

Valparaiso has been severely hit by forest fires in recent days, according to Telemundo 47. More than 500 hectares were burned since the blaze started this past Friday, and just less than a year after 15 people were killed and 3,000 homes destroyed in another fire, according to BBC.
