Iowa figherfighters revive cat after house fire
Ames firefighters were able to revive Cleo using a specialized oxygen mask for animals.

Firefighters from Ames, Iowa were able to revive a cat that was rescued from a house fire on Monday.

The cat, named Cleo, was found unresponsive, surrounded by thick black smoke in the basement of the burning house. Firefighters worked for over 30 minutes to revive the cat using a specialized oxygen mask for animals.

"As time went on, (Cleo) started to slowly come to, started meowing, started to breathe on its own (and) started to move around on its own," Ames Fire Department Lt. Jordan Damhof said in a department Facebook post. "So all positive indications that things were working well."

After being revived, Cleo was taken to the Iowa State University Veterinary Medicine Emergency Room. Veterinarians are hopeful that "Cleo will be well enough to go home in a few days."
