FAIRFAX STATION, Va. -- A Saint Bernard named Milo needed some rescuing of his own when he fell through ice at a remote lake in Virginia.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department firefighters saw the dog 30 feet from the shore and quickly jumped into action.

Milo was rescued from the freezing waters and taken into a medic unit to be warmed up and dried off. The temperature was 21 degrees with an 8 degree wind chill when Milo fell into the waters.

The family said they were playing in the snow near the lake when the dog walked onto the ice, slipped and fell, according to a rescue department press release.
