2014 went to the dogs. This year, we couldn't get enough of man's best friend being cute, being sweet and making us laugh.

9. Baby bear saved by brave good Samaritans

Here's an animal story about how awesome people can be. A small group of concerned citizens spotted a bear cub with a bucket stuck on its head. The group went through quite an ordeal chasing down the bear but was finally about to free it. They think the same bear may have been spotted with a bucket on its head two months earlier.

8. Hamster-sized puppy wins our hearts

Belle the Yorkshire terrier puppy was the definition of precious. Her owner said she was just two inches tall, and naturally the internet fell in love. Sadly, Belle passed away in November, but her owner continues to post memories and pictures on her Facebook page.

7. German Shepard has a tantrum when it's time to quit swimming

This hilarious dogs-being-dogs moment is too funny. The dog does not want to get out of the water, and she makes that known when her owner says, "Bella, it's time to go."

5. Autistic girl with service dog turned away by mall Santa

A 5-year-old in Southern California was upset after a mall Santa refused to see her because she was accompanied by a pit bull service dog. The mall apologized and the Santa was fired. Her mother asked fans of their Facebook page to post cheerful holiday photos to reignite her daughter's love for Christmas.

4. Baby elephant takes a tumble, family comes to rescue

Baby elephant Omysha in Switzerland was only a few months old when she won the internet over. When she toppled over while exploring her enclosure, the adult elephants came to her rescue. The endearing moment of family love went viral.

3. Most popular dog names of 2014

1. Chubby's last photo shoot

Chubby was the beloved best friend of Maria Sharp, a photographer, for the past 16 years. Sharp made the hard decision to put Chubby down because of deteriorating health, but she took a heartbreaking final photo shoot to chronicle their last day together.
