Watch these adorable baby echidnas
Sydney's Taronga Zoo celebrated the birth of three baby echidnas, known as puggles, on November 18.

The Taronga Zoo celebrated the birth of three adorable baby echidnas, or puggles. They're the first of their kind to be born at the zoo in 29 years.

The puggles hatched between Aug. 16-30 to first-time mothers Ganyi, Spike and Pitpa, the zoo said in a press release.

"All three mothers are doing an amazing job and tending to their puggles as needed," said Suzie Lemon, keeper at the zoo. "We have one mum, Spike, who is so attentive that she returns to feed her baby every second day."

Lemon said that the puggles all weigh less than two pounds right now and spend a good portion of their days sleeping.

"They can be buried up to 30cm deep in their burrow, so they'll just sleep and use all their energy to grow and develop," Lemon said.

Echidnas are difficult to breed in human care. They're also one of the only two Australian mammals that lay eggs, according to the zoo.
