SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- As San Francisco mourns the death of Mayor Ed Lee, the city and several public agencies are finding ways to honor him.

BART says it will join other transit agencies at 12 p.m. in a moment of silence to honor the late mayor. They tweeted, "Trains will slow to a halt and a public announcement will be made. He was a tremendous partner to BART and an advocate for safe and reliable public transit for the entire region."

Muni is also honoring the 43rd Mayor of San Francisco. The agency tweeted, "At noon today, Muni will be stopping service for 1 minute in honor of Mayor Ed Lee."

VTA also says they'll observe the moment of silence at noon. In a statement they write, "VTA will be observing a moment of silence in remembrance of San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, who unexpectedly passed away last night. At 12:00 Noon (Pacific Daylight Time) today, all VTA buses and trains will stop for 30 seconds in order to provide a moment of quiet reflection. VTA buses and light rail will stop at a safe location."

A statement by the mayor's office states that he passed away suddenly on Tuesday just after 1 a.m. at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. It went on to say that family, friends and colleagues were at Lee's side.
