Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, GOP watch parties held in Bay Area on California Primary Day

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton claimed history as the first female presumptive nominee of a major political party as Donald Trump shifted his tone and Bernie Sanders vowed to fight on.

At a Sanders watch party in Oakland, his supporters were thrilled at the news that he would fight onto Washington D.C.'s primary and onto the convention.

"I want to thank all of you for being part of the political revolution," said Sanders at a rally in Santa Monica. "I want to thank the people of California for their incredible hospitality."

Sanders went on to say he won 10 million votes and captured the hearts of young voters there.

The White House confirmed that Sanders will be meeting with the president on Thursday. So his supporters are still feeling the Bern.

"We think we can make big changes to the Democratic platform and I think we can expect realistically from this campaign," said Sanders supporter Jeff Songster.

Supporters say the campaign has transformed them and has continued to transform the nation and the Democratic Party.

In the meantime, Clinton spoke in New York City and her supporters gathered at a watch party in San Francisco Tuesday.

The watch party quickly became a victory party when those California results started rolling in. And of course there was no one more confident than Clinton herself, who gave her victory speech before the polls even closed on the West Coast.

"I want to thank Senator Sanders for the extraordinary campaign he has run," she said.

Clinton claimed victory over Sanders, and claimed title of first female to win a major party's nomination for President of the United States.

"I really wish my mother could be here tonight," she said.

Clinton supporters gathered at Audio Nightclub in San Francisco to celebrate. The historic moment embraced by Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf.

"I have an 8-year-old daughter and she had tears in her eyes that she wasn't old enough to vote for Hillary Clinton," she said.

During her speech in NYC, Clinton was on the attack.

"Donald Trump is temperamentally unfit to be president," she said.

Supporters of the GOP Party and presumptive Republican presidential nominee gathered in San Francisco.

"As we know, he's no pushover," said Trump supporter Jeff Ricker. "When he wants something, he goes for it."

The Republican watch party was happening in the middle of Democratic San Francisco. GOP energy was all around.

"We expect our lead to continue to grow and grow substantially," said Trump at a rally in New York.

Many GOP leaders in the Bay Area are looking to create party unity. They say Trump is their man.

"At the end of the day we are united against defeating Hillary Clinton," said Christine Hughes, former president of the San Francisco Republican Party.

Trump supporters are looking forward to a Republican convention without violence.

"It's very disappointing," said San Francisco Republican Party Jason Clark said. "Democracy is about conversation, it's not about throwing things and attacking people."
