Donald Trump knows Muslims who are in support of his temporary ban on Muslims entering the country, he said on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

"I have many, many friends who are Muslim, and they are great people," he said. "Some of them aren't so thrilled with what I said, but many of them called me, and they said, 'You know, Donald, you're right. We have a problem.'"

The Republican presidential frontrunner appeared on Kimmel's show Wednesday night to discuss the plan, illegal immigration and other topics. Trump said earlier this month he was "calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on."

The statement was met with mostly criticism from both sides of the aisle. Kimmel referred to an argument made by some critics that Trump's proposal helps ISIS recruit because it fosters an "us versus them" mentality.

"I don't buy that argument," Trump responded. "We need strength in this country. We don't have strength."

On the topic of illegal immigration, Kimmel asked Trump whether he believes that the types of people Americans want in the country are those who would risk everything to be here.

"What I'm saying is, they have to come in through a legal process," Trump said. "We're gonna build a wall but we're gonna have a big, beautiful door."

Trump also discussed the GOP debates, saying that he believed that CNN should pay him "a lot" or donate to charity on his behalf for him to participate.
