SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGO) -- Opponents of the idea to split California into six separate states are fighting to keep the measure off the ballot and have filed a complaint with the Secretary of State.
Opponents say supporters misled or even lied to people to get signatures to support Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper's proposal to split the state.
This week, supporters of the split proposal submitted 1.3 million signatures to try to put it on the ballot in 2016.
County registrars are working to determine the validity of the signatures.
