SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The election for mayor of San Francisco won't be until 2019, but Thursday the first candidate for the office filed his papers.

He's a familiar face to San Francisco residents -- Mark Leno has officially announced his candidacy.

The 65-year-old says he's the one to take on housing affordability and accessibility, traffic, congestion, and public safety.

"I'm running for mayor to offer my expertise and experience, and energies -- skills and passion to address these issues for this city that I have come to love."

Leno, a moderate Democrat, has served as a city supervisor, assemblyman, and state senator.
