SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) -- Santa Clara County officials considered a proposal to speed up the testing of rape kits Tuesday. This comes as there's a backlog of untested kits at many law enforcement agencies and forensic labs throughout the state.

The proposal would require rape kits to be tested within 30 days.

Supervisor Cindy Chavez is requesting that the DA's office also analyze what resources it would need to process all current rape kits by next July.
