Feds investigating if Graco delayed reporting child car seat defect

Graco Children's Products is recalling 1.9 million infant car seats, bowing to demands from U.S. safety regulators in what is now the largest seat recall in American history. (AP)

Federal investigators are looking into whether Graco dragged its heels in reporting a defect in its child car seats. Graco recalled more than 6,000,000 seats this year because the buckles could get stuck during an emergency.

A manufacturer has five days to notify regulators of a safety defect.

The New York Times reports Graco was aware of complaints about the buckles as far back as 2009.

If Graco delayed reporting the issue, the company could be fined up to $35 million.
