PALO ALTO, Calif. (KGO) -- A Bay Area woman nearly lost her car to the authorities over a parking ticket that didn't even belong to her.

Susan Coles loved her Mini Cooper. She even had it customized to show off her British pride with a vanity plate.

The plate came off Susan's previous car - also a Mini Cooper - which she sold in June.

Six months after selling the car, Susan received a delinquency notice in the mail for an unpaid parking ticket from the Stanford Campus.
