ATLANTA (KGO) -- If you want a long and happy marriage, a cheap wedding may be the key.

Professors at Emory University in Georgia found that couples who spend less on their wedding day tend to have longer-lasting marriages compared to those who splurge.

Researchers suspect that having cheaper weddings relieves young couples of a financial burden that could strain the marriage.

The study also found the correlation between less-expensive engagement rings and lower divorce rates.
