Couple outsmarts squirrel stealing from bird feeder

A couple in Utah came up with an ingenious way to thwart a squirrel that kept climbing onto their backyard bird feeder -- they covered the pole that the squirrel was climbing with Vaseline.

Video posted on YouTube shows the squirrel trying again and again to clamber up, only to slide back down every time.

Eventually, the squirrel gave up.

The couple says the tiny amount of Vaseline they used is non-toxic, and the squirrel still raids two other feeders and the vegetable garden.
