OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A Marin County fifth-grader gave the keynote speech Wednesday morning at a citizenship ceremony in Oakland.

Sierra Glasheen read from an essay she wrote on why she "Is glad America is a Nation of Immigrants."

A talented ballet dancer, Glasheen spoke before 1,200 new citizens from 99 countries.

"Every time I heard a country I was like, 'Oh my gosh, that is so awesome.' I was just really happy for everyone who came," Glasheen said.

The writing contest was sponsored by the Northern California Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
