Navy encourages selfies with sailors during Fleet Week
There is no stopping selfie mania. And with Fleet Week arriving in San Francisco, the Navy has launched a new social media campaign.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- There is no stopping selfie mania. And with Fleet Week arriving in San Francisco, the Navy has launched a new social media campaign. ABC7 News reporter Lyanne Melendez joined the effort, called #SelfieWithASailor.

The Navy started it during New York City's Fleet Week as a way to build connections.

And it didn't take long before people in San Francisco took their cameras out to pose with sailors and marines.

"Anybody who is being friendly is good," said 1st Lt. Carl Novick with the U.S. Marines. "I am not a big fan of selfies, but, it's just how it is."

IT-II Martha Martinez with the U.S. Navy added, "You know, 21st century, everybody is taking selfies. So I guess it's a good thing."

There will be plenty of opportunities to take selfies with military personnel.

On Wednesday, the USS Kidd arrived at Pier 35.
