Pennsylvania's National Aviary welcomes baby two-toed sloth

PITTSBURGH (KGO) -- The National Aviary in Pennsylvania is welcoming a baby sloth to their flock. The two-toed sloth was born last year on Oct. 31 and traveled to the center on Tuesday.

The National Aviary in Pittsburgh is home to another adult male sloth, named Wookie. On their website they say the baby sloth is "an ambassador for its species and the birds that live in the forests of Central and South America, areas that are experiencing habitat destruction as a result of human population growth. Presenting him to our visitors and in our programs enables us highlight the importance of biodiversity the need to protect those rapidly disappearing habitats that are home to both birds and mammals."

The baby sloth does not have a name yet. National Aviary officials say the public will have the opportunity to bid in an auction for the chance to name him. Those details will be released later.

Anyone who would like to help welcome this baby sloth is asked to donate a Baby Shower gift in any amount to help cover the cost of all the items needed to care for the baby sloth.
