SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGO) -- You can support California museums by recognizing the birthday of iconic Bay Area cartoonist Charles Schulz.

Pre-orders begin Wednesday for a special Snoopy license plate that says "museums are for everyone."

It costs $50 initially, and then $40 a year to renew.

It needs 7,500 orders to go into production. Right now, they've sold over 4,700.

Proceeds will establish a grant to support California museums, zoos, gardens, aquariums and more.

Schulz created the Peanuts comic strip and made Santa Rosa his home until his passing 14 years ago.
