JACK LONDON STATE PARK, Calif. (KGO) -- There will be a tree planting ceremony on Saturday in Sonoma County in honor of Arbor Day.

It won't just be any tree - this one comes with a literary heritage.

It's been said that beneath this tree, Jack London wrote 10 of his 60 books and plays.

London's oak has been showing its age to the point where, three years ago, the state considered cutting it down. The end appeared imminent.

But even if the tree did have to come down, it was still producing acorns - and that meant hope.

This weekend, the miracle sapling moves to a permanent home in Sonoma's Montini Open Space Preserve, where London's oak tree's DNA will live on.
