NOVATO, Calif. (KGO) -- The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank is making a dire plea for donations to avoid cutting back services.

The Food Bank raises about half its operating budget at the end of the year, but this year, it has fallen $500,000 short.

If it doesn't raise the money in the next two days, it will need to make some tough decisions.

"Do we need to cut some food items? Do we need to send less out to our pantries? So it does have a huge impact in what we can purchase," said Meredith Nguyen of the San Francisco

Most likely, the Food Bank will need to eliminate high cost items, like dairy and bread. A percentage of support comes from private donors.
