Ticket sold in San Leandro matches 5 numbers in $564M Powerball drawing

SAN LORENZO, Calif. (KGO) -- Check your tickets! One ticket sold at Pop Top Market & Liquor, on East 14th Street in San Leandro, matched five numbers, missing only the Powerball number.

Results of the Powerball draw show winning tickets were sold in North Carolina, Puerto Rico and Texas. There was no California ticket hit the jackpot, but three tickets sold in the state did match five numbers, missing only the Powerball number. How much those tickets are worth are unknown at this time.

The winning numbers are: 11, 13, 25, 39, and 54 with a Powerball number of 19.

Sales of Powerball tickets soared in advance of Wednesday night's $564 million Powerball drawing. People lined up for tickets around the country in hopes they could beat the odds and win the giant prize.

Kavanagh Liquors in San Lorenzo has sold more million dollar tickets than any other Bay Area store.

JP Liquors in Los Altos is another one of those lucky retailers. The store has sold $2 million tickets in the past is a big draw for people hoping to win Wednesday's Powerball.

Greg Rivera with JP Liquors says he's seeing a steady stream of people coming in, some from far away. Each hoping his past fortune will rub off on them. He wishes each Powerball purchaser good luck.

"I tell people I'm riding on your luck," said Rivera.

From every walk of life, jackpot hopefuls say they can use $500 million.

"I just wrote my check for $43,000 for one year of school. So if she's hoping to get through high school, I probably need to win Powerball," said Anna Leaver of Los Altos.

In San Jose, the owner of Jennifer's Gift Shop on Tully Road sold a winning Mega-Millions ticket that split a $648 million jackpot. That kind of luck, especially with the Lunar New Year a week away, has attracted many who are convinced this is the place to play Powerball.

"Ahhh, sometimes. Since they won that Mega," said Tim Pham of San Jose.

Shop owner Thuy Nguyen, like any retailer who sells a winner ticket, receives a commission. He did well from doing so two years ago.

"I paid half tax and then the other half, I bought myself a house," said Nguyen.

We saw people spending from $2 to as much as $400 on Powerball picks for a chance at $500 million.

The last time Powerball grew nearly so large was February 2014.
