7 On Your Side helps 49ers fan see the game
The opening of Levi's Stadium came with great excitement, until one 49ers season ticket holder sat down and had a poor view.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) -- The opening of the 49ers' new stadium has brought a lot of excitement. There's a new building with state of the art technology, but also a few glitches, such as loose turf and heavy traffic. And one season ticket holder from San Jose had an unusual problem, so he called 7 On Your Side for help.

"I bled red and gold my whole life," said Dave Cooper. He has been going to 49ers games since the old days at Kezar Stadium. "Since my dad took me to the game for my birthday when I was 5 years old."

He followed the team from Kezar to Candlestick, watching as they struggled.

"I didn't care if they were losers. They were my Niners," Cooper said.

And eventually, they started winning.

"With Bill Walsh and Joe Montana and really taking it to them. It was amazing," Cooper said.

So he didn't hesitate when the team moved to Santa Clara. He bought licenses for two seats overlooking the 20 yard line -- exactly where he sat at Candlestick all those years.

"You had to buy your seats two and a half years ago," Cooper said.

And then it happened. A few weeks ago, filled with excitement about the coming season, Cooper got to see where he would be sitting for the next 20 years.

"I sit down and look out and I go, 'Oh my gosh.' I couldn't believe it," Cooper said.

The problem was a plate glass barrier running along the front row, preventing fans from falling over, was also blocking his view.

"So it's like bifocals that aren't working right or something. So literally, either I got to ask the person next to me, 'Do you mind?' So I can stick my head around the glass so I can see, or stand up," Cooper said.

He took video showing how his view looks. You can see his reflection blurring the glass. Half the view is clear, half not. Yes he could see the action, but not that well. He tried to imagine watching this way for the next 20 years.

"Yeah, I bought these tickets for life, the life of the stadium. It broke my heart when I saw what happened," Cooper said.

He asked the Niners to move him, and the team did offer new seats, but they were too expensive.

"I kind of felt left alone and I didn't really want to go to any games in those seats because, it didn't feel right," Cooper said.

With the season fast approaching, he contacted 7 On Your Side. We asked the 49ers if they could find him a better spot and they did. They offered me even lower seats on the field level.

Cooper can now sit in his new seats in the 36 row up from the field. The 49ers are picking up the extra cost.

"I sat in the seat and looked at how the game is going to be and said, 'Yes!'" Cooper said.

The 49ers didn't respond to questions about those glass panels, but really came through for Cooper, telling us, "We are really glad Mr. Cooper is happy with the resolution and that he brought his concern to us. We're just thankful we were able to help one of our customers."

"There's no better feeling. You can't do this in front of a TV set," Cooper said.

He says the positioning of the glass obstructed his particular seat on the aisle and no one else in the section complained about it. No word on whether the configuration will be changed, or not.

We'd like to thank the 49ers for tackling the issue and scoring big time with a lifelong fan.
