Giants fans thrilled team clinches 2nd NL Wild Card spot

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco Giants fans will always celebrate a win against the Dodgers, but this game was really a contest against the Saint Louis Cardinals.

It sounds a little confusing. So, one Giants fan explained what the win means in simple terms. "It means that we get to go to a Wild Card game and if we win that we go to the playoffs," a Giants fan said.

The Giants won and will now go on to play the Mets in New York on Wednesday for the Wild Card game. The winner there goes on to the playoffs.

It was electric as Sergio Romo took the mound in the ninth inning and shut down the Dodgers, sealing a seven to one win.

Of course it is an even year and the Giants have three even year World Series championships on proud display at AT&T Park.

The fans say the Giants are playing just the way they always do in winning years. "This is what we're used to, you know, this time of year, we just come back streaking. It's probably better than coming in on top. You know, we sort of like that role," Giants fan Brenan Pipkin said.

Dodgers fans weren't too bothered by this loss and that's because they've already sealed their playoff spot.
