Hostess made a big league social media error with their latest Twitter #OpeningDay promotion.

In honor of Major League Baseball's Opening Day, the tasty treat manufacturer posted an image on Twitter on Monday of a cupcake decorated like a baseball. But beneath the cupcake was a caption that read "Touchdown."

Many Twitter users were quick to point out Hostess' fumble with their #OpeningDay promotion.

However, some Twitter users were skeptical if Hostess really struck out with their tweet, or if the "touchdown" post was actually intentional.

Even Sports Illustrated joined in on the Hostess touchdown fun.

Hostess eventually confirmed that their "Touchdown" tweet wasn't a mistake.

"The 'Touchdown' line was intentional," Hostess told ABC News. "It's fun and aimed at young audiences who are in on the running joke -- which, of course, is the goalllll."
