One shot after argument in San Jose
San Jose police are investigating a shooting in the downtown area last night.

SAN JOSE (KGO) -- In downtown San Jose, it appears one man was shot over Sunday's 49ers/Raiders game. It happened outside San Pedro Square.

Many people were surprised to see investigators in what's considered to be a safe part of downtown San Jose, and even more surprised that the shooting was apparently over the 49ers/Raiders game.

Our media partner, the San Jose Mercury News reports there was an argument among fans outside San Pedro Square, and the person who was shot, was trying to break it up.

The victim is out of surgery and is recovering from non-life threatening injuries. As for possible suspects, San Jose police say they detained three men believed to be responsible. Officers caught them running away from the scene. Brittania Arms was forced to close soon after the shooting.

Investigators searched the bar to collect evidence. This is where the victim was watching the game and where he returned after being shot in the chest.

People who live in the area say while the shooting is disconcerting, they believe it was an isolated incident. They say violence is rare in this part of town.

"Especially this little area right here with San Pedro Market, I've always felt very safe here," said San Jose resident Debbie Masters.

San Jose police say the suspects likely face charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
