OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- It's a huge weekend for Bay Area football fans. For the first time in years, the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers will play each other in Battle of the Bay.

Oakland city officials are glad fans will be there, but are telling people to leave hostility at home.

"I would say represent your team well," former Raider safety Burgess Owens said.

Owens, a grizzled veteran player, is asking both Raiders and 49ers fans for a little calm this weekend.

Oakland city leaders and police hope to avoid a repeat of the violence in the stands that plagued their last meeting in 2011.

The annual preseason rivalry games were canceled after the 2011 contest was marred by two shootings, two assaults and numerous fistfights.

"It's a spirit of rivalry, but I don't expect any problems," Oakland Mayor Jean Quan said.

"I just hope we don't have any incidents," Breon Epps said.

Epps and his family traveled all the way from Richmond, Virginia to take in the meeting between his beloved Raiders and the 49ers.

Laura: "Someone sitting next to you in red 49ers gear, you going to go easy on him?"

"I'm just going to be louder than he is, that's all," Epps said.

Kelvin Davis is a die hard Raiders fan and he welcomes more security. "It's the Battle of the Bay, but we don't need no violence," he said.

Sunday's game is the first regular season game between the two teams since 2010. San Francisco hasn't played in Oakland since 2002.
