LOS ANGELES (KGO) -- The case against San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith's alleged bomb threat has been assigned to a special unit of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Smith was arrested a week ago Sunday at Los Angeles International Airport.
A police sergeant said that after Smith went through a routine screening, he asked the TSA agent if he would be searched further.
When told no, the sergeant says Smith told the agent, "Why not, I have a bomb,"
The LAPD's criminal conspiracy unit is now handling the investigation.
Charges have yet to be filed against Smith.
