Rory McIlroy has yet to say if he will play in next week's PGA Championship, but the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world has posted a couple of videos and photos via social media in recent days which suggest he is trying his best to be there.

McIlroy, 26, injured his left ankle on July 4 and has pulled out of three tournaments since, including The Open and this week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club. He was the defending champion for both.

The videos and photos on Instagram showed:

McIlroy said he suffered ligament damage while playing soccer with friends. He pulled out of the Scottish Open immediately, The Open a few days later and then last week decided to forgo the Bridgestone Invitational.

IrishGolfDesk.com cited sources in reporting that McIlroy spent last week playing golf in Portugal. He has not competed since June 21, the final round of the U.S. Open, where he tied for ninth at Chambers Bay.

McIlroy, the defending champion at the PGA, is entered in the tournament and does not need to do anything but register on site before his first-round tee time.

Jordan Spieth, ranked No. 2 in the world, can overtake McIlroy this week if he wins the Bridgestone.
