Cordell Cato and Chris Wondolowski each scored two goals as the San Jose Earthquakes cruised past Sporting Kansas City 5-0.

Cato opened the scoring in the third minute of the first half. Shea Salinas raced down the left sideline and fed a trailing Cato for an easy tap-in. Wondolowski's penalty kick in the 17th minute made it 2-0. Quincy Amarikwa earned the penalty after being pushed down in the box by Chance Myers.

Anibal Godoy scored the third goal for San Jose in the 27th. Amarikwa's clever back-heel pass near the midfield circle set up Godoy's breakaway. Godoy cut back his defender in the box and beat goalkeeper Tim Melia for his first goal in an Earthquakes uniform.

In the second half, Cato flicked in Salinas' assist in the 58th. Three minutes later, Wondolowski headed in his 100th goal with the Earthquakes.

Wondolowski moved into a tie with Dwayne De Rosario for sixth place on MLS's career scoring list. He also became the first player in MLS history to score 10 or more goals in six consecutive seasons.

Krisztian Nemeth had the best scoring chance for Kansas City in the 59th minute when his deflected shot hit off the post.

Kwadwo Poku scored two second-half goals to help New York City FC tie the Columbus Crew 2-2 in a game delayed 1 hour, 14 minutes in the 77th minute because of a thunderstorm.

New York City FC pulled into a sixth-place tie with Montreal and Orlando City in the Eastern Conference, while Columbus remained third.

Kei Kamara opened the scoring in the 24th minute for Columbus. Ethan Finlay easily beat three defenders and crossed to Kamara just outside the middle of the 6-yard box. Kamara's sliding left-footed tap-in beat goalkeeper Josh Saunders for his MLS-leading 18th goal.

David Villa played through three defenders and passed to a charging Poku, who tapped it past goalkeeper Steve Clark in the 57th minute. Poku scored on a header in the 66th minute.
