SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald has been released on $25,000 bail following his arrest on domestic violence charges.

According to San Jose police, McDonald was arrested at his home located in the 2500 block of Bentley Ridge Driver around 2:45 a.m. and booked into the Santa Clara County jail on felony domestic violence charges.

San Francisco 49ers player Ray McDonald arrested for domestic violence.

According to Randol, his case is now headed to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for review.

This news comes after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced sweeping changes to the league's domestic abuse policy on Thursday. The new rules include a six game suspension for a first offense and a lifetime ban after the second.

In a letter he wrote more severe penalties for a first offense would be considered for, "Violence involving a weapon, choking, repeated striking or when the act is committed against a pregnant woman or in the presence of a child."

Mcdonald's fiance is reportedly pregnant.

49er's fans are sounding off about this latest incident.

"I was sad and I was mad because the guy is good, and it's obviously these guys got to get their act together. They can't be getting in trouble like that. They've got to walk away from situation. I know at times it's hard. But what can you do, you've got to learn to walk," Gary Duarte said.

"I was disappointed. I'm a Niner fan since 1980 and I've been following the Niners every season and I feel like domestic violence shouldn't be done and I'm pretty sure he's going to pay for his consequences," Dan Leve said.

San Francisco 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke released a statement on the matter that reads: "The 49ers organization is aware of the recent reports regarding Ray McDonald and we take such matters seriously. As we continue to gather the facts, we will reserve further comment."

Neighbors told ABC7 News that the home where McDonald was arrested is the same home where 49er Aldon Smith had been partying last September before getting involved in a single vehicle crash just down the street and then getting arrested for DUI.

49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was suspended on Friday over assault weapons charges and a DUI arrest.
