The first female athlete to sign a $1M contract in the US is playing for a Houston-based team

HOUSTON -- An American athlete is making history. Professional softball player Monica Abbott is the first woman on a United States sports team to sign a seven-figure contract.

The $1 million deal will be spread over the life of a six-year contract with the Houston-based Scrap Yard Dawgs.

Abbott won a silver medal in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and threw the first perfect game in the history of the Olympics.
