PALO ALTO, Calif. -- The Stanford marching band has been suspended through spring quarter of 2017 after a panel found repeated violations of school policies.

The school announced the punishment Friday. In a news release, Stanford said it is "initiating a process to develop a new organizational framework under the leadership of a new music director."

Stanford barred the band from performing at away games during the 2015-16 academic year for violating policies on sexual harassment, alcohol, controlled substances and hazing.

On Jan. 1, 2016, the band was booed off the field during the Rose Bowl halftime show after offending some fans with its performance.
