Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic to kick off in Daly City
Golf fans are gearing up for the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic in Daly City to see the world's best female golfers in action Thursday through the weekend.

DALY CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- Golf fans will be heading to Daly City from now through the weekend to see the world's best female golfers in action.

The Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic kicks off Thursday at the Lake Merced Golf Club.

The biggest names in women's golf will be at the Swinging Skirts classic including, the hugely popular Hawaii native Michelle Wie, Lydia Ko a two-time defending champion who is going for a 3-peat, Paula Creamer who was born in Mountain View and raised in Pleasanton, and veteran from San Jose State University named Juli Inkster who took the time Wednesday to speak at the San Francisco mayor's Women's Golf Council.

Of course, the fan favorite is Ko. Fans swarmed her for autographs as she approached the tenth hole on Wednesday.

This tournament is special for Ko because she got her first professional win there two years ago.

She was 16 years old then. Now, she is the number one ranked player. "When you come back to a place where you have played well and you are feeling the love and they are excited for you to play well, you always love coming back and obviously here with so many great memories, I'm excited for tomorrow to start," Ko said.

A win this weekend would be extra special for Ko as she celebrates her 19th birthday on Sunday.

The event is in his third year, with at least 55,000 fans are expected to attend.

Officials said they will be giving away $2 million in prizes.
