'The Ghost' floats into the ring again
Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero will take on undefeated Keith Thurman in Las Vegas this weekend.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero returns to the ring for the first time since losing to Floyd Mayweather. He's fighting undefeated Keith Thurman in Las Vegas Saturday night and we spoke to Guerrero about the bout.

When we spoke to Guerrero about this fight with Mayweather, he said, "When you have the pound for pound best fighter in the world running from you, man it feels good. Unfortunately, I didn't get the win but you learn a lot."

It's not often that a boxer gains confidence from a loss, but that was exactly the case for Guerrero.

Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero fights in the ring.

His opponent Saturday is Keith "One Time" Thurman -- One Time for his knockout prowess. The 26-year-old has never lost in 24 career bouts, all but 3 by KO. The Ghost says he'll show the same respect to Thurman as Mayweather did for him.

"One thing with undefeated fighters, they never want to lose. So it's one of those fights where he's coming to win," said Guerrero.

Thurman has 21 knockouts, but Guerrero has never been knocked out, so there is a contrast there.

"Oh yeah, he says he's going to be the first to knock me out, so I'm excited when somebody says that because it poses a challenge," replied Guerrero.

Guerrero is now the grizzled veteran. After Mayweather, he's seen it all. Nothing Thurman intends to throw at him will come as a surprise.

Guerrero: "He talked about he took wrestling up and he's got some roughhouse tactics under his belt, but you know, it's how you react to it. So you've got to get in that ring and just take care of business."

Resch: "To me that kind of sounds like he's almost on the defensive before the fight has started. Am I interpreting that wrong?"

Guerrero: "No you hit it right on. Guys will try to spook you with that, where like I said, I mean, it's how you react and we're going to see how he reacts when I hit him."

Thurman says he's not afraid to lose, so he'll go for broke and that is exactly what The Ghost is counting on.

"You know, the one thing that I bring is a lot of experience and I'm from the Bay Area man, we're tough out here," said Guerrero.
