Maybe he was a little nervous about the game or maybe he was just feeling especially patriotic, but Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne was moved to tears last night during the national anthem.
"The Star Spangled Banner" was performed by Grammy Award-winning trumpet player and composer Chris Botti as a giant American flag was spread across the field at Metlife Stadium prior to the Monday Night Football game between the Colts and New York Giants.
ESPN's cameras caught Wayne standing silently with tears streaming down his cheeks during Botti's soulful rendition. While Wayne appears to have been the only player brought to tears, players and coaches on both teams appeared to be moved by Botti's performance.
Fans took to Twitter both to share their enthusiasm for Botti's version of Francis Scott Key's song and their support for Wayne's emotional reaction, with some calling it the highlight of the night.
